Biography

Éric St-Pierre is a Canadian politician, climate advocate, and philanthropist who has made a significant impact in Quebec’s political landscape. A dedicated member of the Liberal Party of Canada, St-Pierre was elected as the Member of Parliament for Honoré-Mercier in the 2025 Canadian federal election, succeeding longtime MP Pablo Rodríguez. His journey to public office was shaped by years of experience in environmental policy, sustainable investing, and nonprofit leadership.

St-Pierre was born in Canada and pursued higher education at Concordia University, earning a degree in political science, followed by dual law degrees in civil and common law from McGill University. His academic background provided him with the expertise to navigate complex policy discussions and advocate for responsible governance. He later became a member of the Quebec Bar, practicing Indigenous and environmental law and defending tenants as both a litigator and mediator.

His career in philanthropy and climate advocacy has been transformative. From 2016 to 2025, St-Pierre served as the executive director of the Trottier Family Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Montreal that manages and funds climate change-related projects. Under his leadership, the foundation shifted its assets toward sustainable investing, expanded its grants to registered charities, and supported initiatives to advance the transition to a low-carbon economy. He worked closely with the City of Montreal and Mayor Valérie Plante on developing Montreal’s carbon-neutral climate action plan, which included a commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 55 percent. The Trottier Family Foundation also contributed to the creation of the Montreal Climate Partnership, engaging civil society in the new climate plan.

St-Pierre is a co-founder of Low Carbon Cities Canada (LC3) and the Greater Montréal Climate Fund, and he previously held positions on the Board of Environment Funders Canada and as co-chair of the Montreal Climate Partnership. His leadership in these roles reinforced his reputation as a dedicated advocate for climate action and sustainable development. In March 2022, he organized the Great Canadian ESG Championship, a competition funded by Canadian charitable foundations to promote sustainable investing. In 2024, he helped mobilize $405 million for Canadian climate philanthropy.

His transition into federal politics was driven by his desire to bring a strong, climate-focused voice to Ottawa. His campaign emphasized environmental protection, economic growth, and sustainable infrastructure investment. His ability to engage with diverse communities and build consensus made him a respected figure in Quebec’s political landscape. On election night, he secured a decisive victory, winning over 60 percent of the vote in Honoré-Mercier.
