About Daniel Gobeil

Daniel Gobeil is the Liberal Member of Parliament for Chicoutimi—Le Fjord in Quebec’s Saguenay region. A dairy farmer and agronomist by training, he brings to Parliament a lifetime of experience in agriculture and a long record of representing Quebec farmers at the provincial and national levels.

Gobeil owns and operates Ferme du Fjord in La Baie, Saguenay, a family farm first acquired by his grandfather and worked by three generations of his family. The farm is home to approximately 200 cattle, including 125 lactating cows, and grows forage and crops including barley, oats and soybeans.

His involvement with Les Producteurs de lait du Québec began in 2007. He became the organization’s first vice-president in December 2017 and also served as president of the Producteurs de lait du Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean. After serving as acting president in the spring of 2020, he was elected president of Les Producteurs de lait du Québec on May 1, 2020, a role he held until July 2026. As president, he represented Quebec dairy farmers on supply management, agricultural trade and compensation related to international trade agreements, and supported federal legislation to protect supply-managed sectors from further concessions in future trade negotiations. He also joined the board of the Dairy Farmers of Canada in 2017 and was elected its vice-president in September 2023.

In July 2026, Gobeil stepped down from his agricultural leadership roles to seek federal office, becoming the Liberal candidate in the Chicoutimi—Le Fjord by-election following the appointment of the riding’s previous MP, Richard Martel, to the Senate. Prime Minister Mark Carney joined him on the campaign trail, and Gobeil was elected to the House of Commons on August 31, 2026.

As a Member of Parliament, Gobeil draws on his deep knowledge of farming and rural communities to represent the people of Chicoutimi—Le Fjord and to champion the interests of agricultural producers in Ottawa.
