Biography

Tim Hodgson is a Canadian politician, corporate leader, and financial expert who has played a significant role in Ontario’s political and economic landscape. A dedicated member of the Liberal Party of Canada, Hodgson was elected as the Member of Parliament for Markham—Thornhill in the 2025 Canadian federal election. His journey to public office was shaped by decades of experience in investment banking, corporate governance, and public service.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Hodgson grew up in a family that valued education, leadership, and civic responsibility. His father, Colin Hodgson, immigrated to Canada from England and pursued a career in the Royal Canadian Air Force, which led the family to live in various locations across the country. His mother, Marianne Hodgson, was a healthcare professional who served as President of the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association. Hodgson pursued higher education at the University of Manitoba, earning a Bachelor of Commerce degree in accounting and finance. He later obtained a Master of Business Administration from the Ivey Business School at Western University. His career in finance and corporate leadership has been transformative. From 1990 to 2010, Hodgson held various positions in New York, London, Silicon Valley, and Toronto with Goldman Sachs, ultimately serving as Chief Executive Officer of Goldman Sachs Canada. He later joined the Bank of Canada as a special advisor to Governor Mark Carney, where he contributed to national financial policy discussions.

Beyond his work in finance, Hodgson has been deeply involved in corporate governance. He served as chairperson of Hydro One Limited and the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization, as well as a board member for Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, MEG Energy, and PSP Investments. His transition into federal politics was driven by his desire to bring a strong, business-focused voice to Ottawa.
