Karim Bardeesy for Representative

Karim Bardeesy has devoted his career to public service, championing an inclusive and prosperous Canada for all.

Karim is ready to build a better future for Taiaiako’n—Parkdale—High Park. He is an experienced leader who knows how to get big things done. Under Mark Carney’s leadership, he is ready to fight for his community and for Canada.

He co-founded and leads the Dais, a national public policy and leadership institute at Toronto Metropolitan University, which spearheads innovative technology, education, and democracy policy. Karim’s dedication has earned him two teaching awards and, recently, the King Charles III Coronation Medal for strengthening Canada’s democracy.

As a senior advisor in Ontario’s highest offices—serving as Deputy Principal Secretary to Premier Kathleen Wynne and Executive Director of Policy under Premiers Wynne and Dalton McGuinty—he led transformative initiatives to improve infrastructure, expand student support, and give Ontarians better and bigger pensions. In 2022, he continued his commitment to public service as the Ontario Liberal candidate in Parkdale—High Park.

Karim has worked as a journalist, columnist for The Toronto Star, editorial writer and business reporter at The Globe and Mail, and Slate magazine in New York City.

Karim holds a Bachelor of Arts from McGill University and a Master of Public Policy from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. He also taught leadership at the University of Toronto’s School of Public Policy and Governance.

He and his wife are raising their two children in the Roncesvalles area of Toronto’s west end, in Taiaiako’n—Parkdale—High Park. Karim, the son of immigrants from Egypt and England, grew up in Bathurst, New Brunswick.
