About Costas Menegakis



Costas Menegakis is the Conservative Member of Parliament for Aurora—Oak Ridges—Richmond Hill in Ontario. Born in Montreal, Quebec, he lives in the Oak Ridges area of Richmond Hill with his wife, Gail. He is a father of two and a grandfather of two.

Menegakis holds a degree in business from Concordia University’s Faculty of Commerce. Before entering politics, he worked in senior corporate management and went on to found a marketing company that provided logistics services to national and international clients.

He was first elected to the House of Commons on May 2, 2011, as the Member of Parliament for Richmond Hill in the 41st Parliament. In 2013, Prime Minister Stephen Harper appointed him Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. During his time in Parliament he has served on the Standing Committees on Citizenship and Immigration, Procedure and House Affairs, Government Operations and Estimates, and Official Languages.

Among his legislative accomplishments, Menegakis introduced private member’s Bill C-515, which was subsequently adopted as government Bill C-35. The bill amended the Criminal Code to create a specific offence for killing or injuring law enforcement, military and service animals while they assist officers or persons with disabilities. It received Royal Assent on June 23, 2015, becoming law as the Justice for Animals in Service Act, known as Quanto’s Law, in honour of a police dog killed in the line of duty in 2013.

After contesting the 2015, 2019 and 2021 federal elections, Menegakis won the Conservative nomination in Aurora—Oak Ridges—Richmond Hill and was elected in the April 28, 2025 federal election with 54.7 per cent of the vote. He now represents the communities of Aurora, Oak Ridges and Richmond Hill in Canada’s 45th Parliament.
