About Darren Fisher



Darren Fisher is the Liberal Member of Parliament for Dartmouth—Cole Harbour in Nova Scotia. Born on September 10, 1965, in Dartmouth, he has deep roots in the community he represents and continues to make his home in Dartmouth with his wife, Anne.

Before entering federal politics, Fisher was a business owner and served on Halifax Regional Council from 2009 to 2015. He first represented District 6 East Dartmouth – The Lakes and, following a redistricting in 2012, District 6 Harbourview – Burnside – Dartmouth East, gaining extensive experience in municipal government and local service delivery.

Fisher was first elected to the House of Commons in 2015 and has been re-elected by the residents of Dartmouth—Cole Harbour in each subsequent election, including the April 2025 federal election. Over the course of his parliamentary career he has served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health from 2019 to 2021, to the Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency in 2021, to the Minister of Seniors from 2021 to 2023, and to the Associate Minister of Health and Minister of Mental Health and Addictions from 2023 to 2024.

In December 2024, Fisher was sworn into Cabinet as Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, a role he held until March 2025. As a member of the King’s Privy Council for Canada, he carries the title “The Honourable.”

Fisher first joined the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians in 2024, and on September 18, 2025, Prime Minister Mark Carney named him Chair of the committee. In this role he leads the parliamentarians who review Canada’s national security and intelligence activities, while continuing to serve as a strong voice for the people of Dartmouth—Cole Harbour in Ottawa.
