About Branden Leslie
Branden Leslie is the Conservative Member of Parliament for Portage—Lisgar in southern Manitoba. Born in Portage la Prairie, he grew up on a farm near the city, an upbringing that continues to shape his commitment to rural communities and Canadian family farms.
Before running for office, Leslie worked as a Conservative political staffer and served as campaign manager for his predecessor, former MP and interim Conservative leader Candice Bergen. He also worked as a policy and government relations manager with Grain Growers Canada, advocating on behalf of the country’s grain farmers.
In January 2023, Leslie announced his candidacy for the Conservative nomination in Portage—Lisgar to succeed Bergen, and in April he won the nomination over a field that included a former provincial cabinet minister and a former MP. He was elected to the House of Commons in the by-election held on June 19, 2023, and was re-elected in the 2025 federal election.
In Parliament, Leslie describes himself as a defender of the rural way of life. He has opposed the federal carbon tax, arguing that it disproportionately affects rural communities, farmers and small businesses, and he supported Private Member’s Bill C-234 to exempt grain drying and livestock barn heating from carbon pricing. He has also called for faster housing approvals, the conversion of unused federal buildings into affordable rental housing, and the removal of interprovincial trade barriers.
Leslie continues to focus on lowering the cost of living, reducing bureaucracy, supporting law-abiding firearms owners, tougher bail laws, and faster recognition of internationally trained professionals to help address labour shortages in health care and agriculture. He works to bring the voice of Portage—Lisgar’s farms, families and communities to Ottawa.
