About Ben Carr
Ben Carr is the Liberal Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South Centre, the riding in which he was born and raised and which his late father, Jim Carr, represented before him.
Born in Winnipeg in 1986, Ben is the son of Jim Carr, a former federal cabinet minister, and his mother, Ruth, a physician. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Carleton University and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Winnipeg.
Before entering elected office, Ben built a career in education and public service. He worked as a high school teacher, coach and principal, and served as a staffer in the federal Liberal government. He was also vice president of Indigenous Strategy Alliance, a consulting firm.
Following the death of his father in December 2022, Ben announced in February 2023 that he would seek to continue his father’s work in Winnipeg South Centre. He was elected to the House of Commons in a by-election on June 19, 2023, and was re-elected in the 2025 federal election.
Ben has taken on leadership roles in the House of Commons committee system. In May 2024, he was elected chair of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs. In the 45th Parliament, he serves as chair of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology.
Ben continues to represent the families, businesses and community organizations of Winnipeg South Centre in Ottawa, building on a strong tradition of public service in his community.
