Biography

Wade Grant is a Canadian politician and Indigenous leader who has played a significant role in British Columbia’s political landscape. A dedicated member of the Liberal Party of Canada, Grant was elected as the Member of Parliament for Vancouver Quadra in the 2025 Canadian federal election. His journey to public office was shaped by years of experience in Indigenous governance, municipal affairs, and community advocacy.

Born into the Musqueam Indian Band, Grant was raised in Vancouver Quadra, where he developed a deep connection to his community and its traditions. His family has a long history of leadership within the Musqueam Nation—his mother, Wendy Grant-John, and his grandfather, Willard Sparrow, both served as chiefs of the Musqueam Indian Band1. His father, Howard Grant, has been an influential figure in Indigenous affairs, serving as an executive director with the First Nations Summit. Grant’s upbringing instilled in him a strong sense of responsibility and a commitment to advancing Indigenous rights and reconciliation.

Grant pursued higher education at the University of British Columbia, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 2002. His academic background provided him with a strong foundation in governance, policy-making, and advocacy. He later served as a councillor for the Musqueam Indian Band from 2004 to 2014, where he worked to strengthen economic development, cultural preservation, and community engagement1. His leadership extended to the Vancouver Police Board, where he served from 2010 to 2014, helping to modernize policing and build trust between law enforcement and Indigenous communities.

In addition to his municipal service, Grant played a vital role in provincial governance. From 2014 to 2017, he served as a special advisor on Indigenous issues to British Columbia Premier Christy Clark. His expertise in Indigenous affairs and policy development positioned him as a key figure in advancing reconciliation efforts and fostering collaboration between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.

Grant’s election as the Member of Parliament for Vancouver Quadra marked a significant milestone in his political career.
