Biography

Wade Chang is a Taiwanese-born Canadian politician and lawyer who has served as a Member of Parliament for Burnaby Central since 2025. His journey to public office was shaped by years of experience in law, business, and social entrepreneurship.

Born in Taiwan in 1985 or 1986, Chang immigrated to Canada as a teenager, embracing the values of diversity, inclusion, and social justice. He pursued higher education at the University of Melbourne, earning a Bachelor of Laws, followed by an MBA with distinction from Oxford University, where he focused on social entrepreneurship and systems change. His academic achievements positioned him as a globally minded leader with a strong commitment to public service.

Chang’s career began in law, where he worked as a professional support lawyer and consultant at Baker McKenzie, specializing in corporate compliance and cross-border transactions. His expertise in legal and business matters allowed him to counsel entrepreneurs and small businesses, helping them navigate complex regulatory environments and invest with impact. His passion for social change led him to establish BeneInno Benefit Solutions, a management consulting firm dedicated to fostering inclusion, diversity, and stakeholder engagement.

His transition into politics was driven by his desire to give back to Canada, the country that provided his family with opportunities. In the 2025 Canadian federal election, Chang ran as the Liberal candidate for Burnaby Central, defeating the federal New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh. His victory marked a significant milestone, making him the second Taiwanese-Canadian to be elected to Canada’s federal government.

As a Member of Parliament, Chang has focused on progressive policies that strengthen local business opportunities, drive social innovation, and protect Canada’s social programs. He has been a vocal advocate for affordable housing, infrastructure investment, and modernizing animal protections.
