About Stephen Fuhr
The Honourable Stephen Fuhr is the Liberal Member of Parliament for Kelowna in British Columbia and serves as Secretary of State for Defence Procurement. A retired Royal Canadian Air Force officer and aviation executive, he first represented the area from 2015 to 2019 and returned to the House of Commons in 2025.
Born in Edmonton and raised in Kamloops, Fuhr studied aviation technology at Trinity Western University. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1989 and served for 20 years as a flight instructor, standards officer, CF-18 Hornet fighter pilot and fleet manager, qualifying as a NORAD and NATO operations evaluation officer. He retired with the rank of Major.
After his military service, Fuhr became Vice President and later president and CEO of SkyTrac Systems, an aerospace and satellite communications company. He went on to fly as an aircraft captain on transport category aircraft and is a Transport Canada pilot examiner.
Fuhr was first elected in 2015 for Kelowna—Lake Country, becoming the first Liberal to win the riding since 1972. He chaired the Standing Committee on National Defence from 2016 to 2019 and tabled a motion, passed unanimously, asking the transport committee to study ways to address Canada’s pilot shortage.
Citing an “all hands on deck moment for the country,” Fuhr returned to politics in 2025 and was elected in Kelowna. In May 2025 he was appointed Secretary of State for Defence Procurement, where he oversees military acquisitions so that the Canadian Armed Forces are equipped to meet national and international commitments, including the procurement of additional F-35 aircraft, HIMARS launchers and new submarines.
Fuhr is active with the Rotary Club of Kelowna, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 and the Kelowna Army Navy & Air Force Veterans Unit 376. He is a father of one.
