Biography

Patrick B. Weiler MP is a Canadian politician known for his dedicated service as a Member of Parliament. Born on April 30, 1986, in West Vancouver, British Columbia, he has made significant contributions to his community and the nation as a whole.

Patrick grew up in West Vancouver and Sechelt, British Columbia, under the guidance of his father, Joe Weiler, a renowned UBC law professor, and his mother, Beverly Tanchak, a former Sechelt municipal councillor. With such influential figures in his life, it comes as no surprise that Patrick developed a deep passion for public service and advocacy.

His academic and professional journey led him to specialize in environmental and natural resource management law. Throughout his career, Patrick collaborated with governments worldwide to enhance the management of aquatic ecosystems and promote effective governance of natural resource sectors. His expertise and dedication brought him the privilege of representing various entities, including First Nations, municipalities, small businesses, and non-profit organizations, in environmental and corporate legal matters.

In 2019, Patrick Weiler successfully ran for office in the House of Commons of Canada, securing the seat for the riding of West Vancouver—Sunshine Coast—Sea to Sky Country in the federal election. During his campaign, he proudly aligned himself with the Liberal government’s Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change. He emphasized his commitment to building upon this groundbreaking plan, aiming to maximize the economic opportunities inherent in transitioning to a clean economy of the 21st century. Moreover, Patrick pledged to ensure Canada fulfills its obligations under the Paris Agreement, highlighting his dedication to environmental sustainability.

As a Member of Parliament, Patrick Weiler actively contributes to shaping the future of Canada. He serves on both the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates, and the Standing Committee on Natural Resources. Through his participation in these committees, Patrick plays a crucial role in examining and proposing legislation and policies related to government operations, resource management, and other vital issues.

On July 3, 2020, Weiler made an important announcement regarding a $49 million investment from the federal government. This substantial funding was allocated to infrastructure projects across northern BC and in his own riding of West Vancouver—Sunshine Coast—Sea to Sky Country. The purpose of this investment was to support municipalities, Indigenous communities, and not-for-profit organizations in their efforts to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic impact.
