Jill McKnight is a Canadian politician, business leader, and community advocate who has made a significant impact in British Columbia’s political and economic landscape. A dedicated member of the Liberal Party of Canada, McKnight was elected as the Member of Parliament for Delta in the 2025 Canadian federal election. Her journey to public office was shaped by years of experience in entrepreneurship, business advocacy, and community service.

Born on May 31, 1979, in Delta, British Columbia, McKnight was raised in a family that valued hard work, resilience, and public service. She graduated from South Delta Secondary School and later earned a Bachelor of Commerce in Entrepreneurial Business from the University of Victoria. Her academic achievements provided her with a strong foundation in business management and economic development.

McKnight’s career began in entrepreneurship, where she and her family owned and operated South Coast Casuals, a ladies’ clothing boutique in Ladner, for 28 years. She also played a vital role in the Ladner Village Market for over two decades, helping connect local producers and artisans with customers from across the Lower Mainland. These experiences gave her invaluable insights into the challenges faced by small businesses and the importance of fostering strong local economies.

Her commitment to business advocacy led her to serve as the Executive Director of the Delta Chamber of Commerce, where she championed policies that supported local businesses, strengthened economic development, and enhanced community engagement. Prior to this role, she volunteered extensively with the Ladner Business Association, including five years as its president. Her leadership in these organizations reinforced her reputation as a dedicated advocate for small businesses and economic growth.

McKnight’s dedication to community service extended beyond business advocacy. She has been actively involved in fundraising efforts, helping raise over $250,000 for various causes, including the Delta Hospital Foundation, the BC Cancer Foundation, and Dress for Success. Her commitment to philanthropy and volunteerism earned her several honors, including the King Charles III Coronation Medal, the Queen’s Jubilee Award, and Delta’s 2019 Volunteer of the Year Award.

Her transition into federal politics was driven by her desire to give Delta a strong voice in national decision-making. In the 2025 Canadian federal election, she ran as the Liberal candidate for Delta and secured a decisive victory. Shortly after her election, she was appointed Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence in Prime Minister Mark Carney’s cabinet. In these roles, she has focused on strengthening support for veterans, enhancing national security, and ensuring that Canada’s defense policies align with the needs of its citizens.
