Helena Konanz is a Canadian politician, businesswoman, and former professional tennis player who has made a significant impact in British Columbia’s political landscape. A dedicated member of the Conservative Party of Canada, Konanz was elected as the Member of Parliament for Similkameen—South Okanagan—West Kootenay in the 2025 Canadian federal election. Her journey to public office was shaped by years of experience in municipal governance, business leadership, and community service.

Born Helena Manset on February 1, 1961, in Santa Barbara, California, Konanz pursued higher education at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she was a standout athlete on the UCLA Bruins women’s tennis team. Her talent on the court earned her recognition as an NCAA All-American in 1982 and 1983. She competed professionally in tennis for several years, participating in prestigious tournaments such as the US Open, Wimbledon, and the French Open. Her highest career ranking in doubles was No. 228 in 1987, marking the peak of her professional tennis career.

Following her retirement from professional tennis, Konanz transitioned into the business world, working for Nike in sports equipment and uniform development. Her career eventually led her to Canada, where she settled in Penticton, British Columbia, and became a Canadian citizen. She and her husband, Adam Konanz, established multiple small businesses in the Okanagan, including Konanz Chiropractic, which has served the community for over 30 years.

Konanz’s political career began at the municipal level, where she was elected to Penticton City Council. She served two terms, advocating for economic development, small business growth, and streamlined government processes. Her leadership extended to the Regional District Okanagan Similkameen, where she worked to enhance local governance and community services.

In 2018, Konanz announced her candidacy for the Conservative Party of Canada in the 2019 federal election for South Okanagan—West Kootenay. She secured the Conservative nomination and ran a competitive campaign, finishing second to the incumbent New Democratic Party MP. She ran again in the 2021 federal election but was unsuccessful. However, her persistence and dedication to public service led her to victory in the 2025 election, where she unseated the incumbent and secured her place in Parliament.

As a Member of Parliament, Konanz has focused on key issues affecting her constituents, including economic growth, public safety, and government accountability. She has been a vocal advocate for policies that support small businesses, reduce bureaucratic red tape, and enhance community resilience.
