About Shannon Stubbs
Shannon Stubbs is the Conservative Member of Parliament for Lakeland, a largely rural riding in northeastern Alberta. She has represented the region since 2015 and is known as a strong advocate for her constituents and for Canada’s energy sector.
Shannon was born in 1979 near Chipman, Alberta. She attended Lamont High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts (Joint Honours) in English and Political Science from the University of Alberta. During university, she interned in the office of Leader of the Opposition Preston Manning and worked as an assistant to MP Deborah Grey. She is the granddaughter of Eileen Stubbs, a former mayor of Dartmouth.
Before entering federal politics, Shannon worked in the Alberta public service and was active in provincial politics. She served as chief of staff to Wildrose leader Danielle Smith from 2010 to 2012 and as the party’s Director of Legislative Affairs from 2012 to 2014.
Shannon was elected to the House of Commons in 2015 for the newly re-created riding of Lakeland and has been re-elected in 2019, 2021 and 2025. In 2019 she received 83.9 per cent of the vote in her riding, the highest share ever recorded for a female candidate in Canadian history. She has been recognized twice, in 2017 and 2021, as Maclean’s Parliamentarian of the Year for the MP who best represents constituents.
In Parliament, Shannon has served as deputy critic for Natural Resources and as Official Opposition Shadow Minister for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness. She sponsored motion M-167, which led to a study of rural crime by the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security, and introduced a private member’s bill proposing a tax credit for the decommissioning of inactive oil and gas wells. In the 45th Parliament, she serves as vice-chair of the Standing Committee on Natural Resources.
Shannon is married to Shayne Saskiw, a former Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.
