Heather McPherson for Representative
Heather was first elected as MP in Edmonton Strathcona in 2019. She was re-elected in 2021.
Heather grew up and went to school in Edmonton Strathcona, where she still lives with her family. She has a Masters in Education from the University of Alberta. Prior to being elected to Parliament, she worked for 20 years in the not-for-profit sector, focused on human rights and sustainable development.
Heather is the Foreign Affairs Critic for the NDP. Her commitment to building a more peaceful and just world has included visits to Ukraine and the Middle East. She has spoken up for women’s rights and the rights of persecuted minorities around the world.
Heather has spoken out against the UCP plans to take Alberta out of the Canada Pension Plan. She sponsored a private member’s bill in the House of Commons tomake it more difficult for provinces to leave the CPP.
She joined the fight to protect the Rocky Mountains and Eastern Slopes from intrusive mining operations by tabling a private member’s bills to ensure all new coal projects will be subject to federal environmental review. Her private member’s bill on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder will help individuals, families, medical professionals, and educators diagnose, treat, and manage ADHD better.
