About Arnold Viersen

Arnold Viersen is the Conservative Member of Parliament for Peace River—Westlock in northern Alberta. Born on May 3, 1986, in Barrhead, Alberta, he lives on an acreage in Westlock County near his childhood home with his wife, Melissa, whom he married in 2011. They have six children.

Viersen attended Covenant Canadian Reformed School in Neerlandia from Grade 1 through Grade 12. Before entering politics, he worked as a journeyman auto mechanic, bringing a practical, hands-on background to his work in Ottawa.

Viersen was first elected to the House of Commons in the 2015 federal election, when Peace River—Westlock was created, and has been re-elected by its residents in each subsequent election, including the April 2025 federal election.

In the 42nd Parliament, Viersen served on the Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs and was named the Official Opposition’s Deputy Critic for Rural Affairs. In December 2016, his Private Member’s Motion M-47 received unanimous consent in the House of Commons, directing the Standing Committee on Health to examine the public health effects of easy access to online violent and degrading sexually explicit material on children, women and men. The resulting study was the first Government of Canada study of the public health effects of pornography since 1985.

Viersen identifies as a social conservative and continues to bring the values and priorities of his constituents in Peace River—Westlock to Parliament.
